Within: Construction

Addleshaw Goddard attracts praise for its ‘first-class’ handling of contentious and non-contentious construction, engineering and infrastructure mandates. The team advises on a range of major development schemes in the North West, and nationally, and is noted for its expertise in high-value PFI construction disputes. Clients include developers, employers and public sector entities including Octagon Healthcare, for which the team is handling a multi-party claim against John Laing Construction and John Laing relating to extensive defects in the mechanical and electrical installations at one of the UK's largest PFI hospitals. The team has also been appointed as sole construction law adviser for the Houses of Parliament on the restoration and renewals programme for the Palace of Westminster and the Northern Estate. Other highlights included representing Guinness in disputes relating to Diageo's global headquarters and the Park Royal development; and advising Manhattan Loft Gardens on the development of a mixed-use tower in Stratford, London. It is also assisting Omega Warrington with the £1bn development of the 575-acre Omega site near Warrington. Nancy McGuire is national head of the construction, engineering and environment group. Jonathan Tattersall splits his time between Manchester and London and heads the contentious construction, engineering and environment group; he attracts praise for his ‘measured and commercial advice’. Also recommended are legal director Steve Ormand, who handles non-contentious construction and engineering matters, and senior associate Philip Withey, who handles construction and engineering disputes, with a particular emphasis on PFI projects. In 2016, the team was bolstered by several hires at associate level, while Alison Fagan and Robin Jack left the firm to join DLA Piper UK LLP, and Adam Jason joined United Utilities.
