Policy expertise and thought leadership: Ana Stanic is an honorary lecturer of international commercial and investment arbitration at the University of Dundee. As a thought leader, Ms Stanic has written extensively on the firm’s key areas of expertise and regularly speaks at leading conferences in the EU, East Mediterranean, Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Russia, Georgia, Slovenia and Croatia, among others.

Notable work: energy: advised on international law rules concerning gas fields straddling the borders of two states; advised on host government agreements and international law rules concerning the transit of oil and gas, regarding a pipeline project in Central Asia; advised on a $lbn BOT LNG terminal project in India; and advised a state regarding an inter-state dispute concerning the construction of a large offshore gas infrastructure.

International law: advised on maritime border disputes, sovereign immunity, host government agreements and financial state succession; and negotiated and drafted bilateral investment agreements and free trade agreements on behalf of Slovenia.

Commercial arbitration and investment law: advising states and companies regarding investment treaty claims; advised on a $1bn shareholder dispute concerning a resource company; and advised on gas price review arbitrations pursuant to long-term LNG supply agreements.

EU law: advised on the restructuring of one of the largest companies in the world to ensure compliance with the EU third energy package; advised on an inter-state dispute on construction of energy infrastructure; represented clients before the Court of Justice of the EU; advised on stabilisation clauses, sovereign immunity and investment protection; advised an energy company on EU state aid and EU energy acquis; advised on the interplay between EU energy and competition law; and advised on proposed new EU energy legislation.

Corporate: advised on multi-jurisdictional acquisitions by US entities in Europe, including legal due diligence; and advised on the privatisation and restructuring of some of the largest energy companies in CIS and CEE countries.
