Douglas specialises in all aspects of private client and related tax work. He is experienced in advising UK and non-UK domiciliaries on tax planning and on the preparation of wills, trusts and related matters, as well as on probate work involving the administration of substantial and complex estates, and a wide variety of Court of Protection work. A great deal of Douglas’ work involves advice on inheritance tax mitigation techniques, so as to make full use of the tax-free allowances and reliefs, including the use of trusts and deeds of variation. He also advises on the creation and reorganisation of a variety of UK and offshore tax mitigation structures.

Starting January 1st, 2013, a new tax law (Law No. 822, Tax Concertation Law) came into force in and completely changed the taxation system in Nicaragua. Two years later a new law was issued by the National Assembly containing more than 80 amendments, additions and repeals (Law No 891) which came into force December 18th, 2014.
