Partner specialising in advising charitable companies, charter bodies, lottery distributors, public bodies and social enterprises on a whole range of governance and commercial matters; recent work has involved public/private sector projects involving charities including advising on the establishment of academies, consortia agreements and NHS outsourcing projects. Recognised for expertise on charity mergers, having advised on structuring the Help the Aged/Age Concern merger and completed the merger of Employment Opportunities for People with Disabilities and The Shaw Trust. Writes and lectures on various corporate and commercial matters for charities; editor of fundraising chapter of Tolley’s ‘Charities Manual’ and editor of ‘The ICSA Charity Trustee’s Guide’; clients include Macmillan Cancer Support, Arts Council, College of Optometrists, Cancer Research UK, UK Film Council; Girls’ Day School Trust; British Red Cross Society; and the Tate.
