Position

Suzanne’s practice covers all issues relating to construction projects, including dispute resolution and contract drafting. She has over 20 years’ experience in the construction industry, dealing with both contract drafting and disputes (domestic and international), acting for most sectors of the industry and involving a wide range of projects large and small, such as housebuilding, office and retail development, manufacturing plant, hospitals, sports stadia and infrastructure. Suzanne acts principally for developers, project sponsors, consultants and specialist contractors. Her recent project procurement/drafting experience includes: leading the construction work for the Brit Oval redevelopment. This involved all construction documentation, consultants appointments, security documents and included complex programme and insurance arrangements to facilitate the continued use of the ground and ensure that the new facilities were ready for the Ashes International in August 2005. She has also acted for a syndicate of banks in connection with luxury nursing developments, for other banks in connection with a range of commercial developments and developers in relation to housing and business park projects. Suzanne is also the lead partner for the team’s construction work for a major private health provider and a well-known food manufacturer. She has extensive and long-standing experience of dispute resolution, including mediation, adjudication, arbitration and litigation and has been involved in a number of reported cases.

Career

Articled Oswald Hickson Collier & Co; qualified 1979; partner Wedlake Bell 1983; head of the construction team until 2007; accredited adjudicator and mediator; sits on the Joint Contracts Tribunal. In 2004 sat on the government working party reviewing the payment provisions of the Construction Act. Regular speaker at industry events, including most recently the DTI conference on the review of the Construction Act, the Construction Law Summer School held at Cambridge University and the IBC JCT 2005 Conference.

Joint Contracts Tribunal (JCT) Drafting Sub-Committee; committee member Technology and Construction Solicitors Association; Society of Construction Law; sat on the Government Working Party set up to review the payment provisions of the Construction Act and was involved in drafting proposed amendments; accredited adjudicator and CEDR-qualified mediator.
