Position
John is the principal of Waterson Hicks. He is an all-round shipping lawyer, dealing with both dry shipping and admiralty litigation, as well as ship sale and purchase, shipbuilding disputes and other non-contentious marine work. In addition to the more usual areas of practice he has particular specialist experience in handling MOA disputes and total losses. Details of some of John’s important recent cases are as follows: Haji-loannou v Frangos. Firm acted for the appellant before the Court of Appeal in a dispute involving £100m. The firm has recently obtained judgement for the owners of the ‘Silva’ in proceedings against War Risks Underwriters for an amount of $20m. Also recently successful for owners in major arbitrations involving antedating of Bills of Lading, detention by health authorities.
