The firm: Advocatus was co-founded in 2009 by Christopher Anand Daniel as a litigation and arbitration boutique firm. Ganga Avadiar joined the firm in 2010. In 2013, Harjean Kaur started to develop the firm’s corporate and transactional practices. Mervyn Cheong joined in 2017 to further the disputes practice, with an emphasis on white-collar crime. With Priyalatha Naidu joining this year, she has brought her extensive corporate, transactional, and conveyancing practices into the firm. The firm’s core mission is to provide timely and cost-effective tailored outcomes for clients, guided by a core set of values: integrity, responsiveness and knowledge. The firm’s clients include Singapore and foreign listed companies, MNCS, foreign law firms, non-profit organisations, local companies, and entrepreneurs. The firm has an active regional practice.

The firm’s civil and commercial litigation, and arbitration team provides a full range of top quality services across a broad spectrum of disputes, both in local courts and before international and domestic arbitral tribunals.

In the corporate and commercial practice, the team is actively involved in local and cross-border transactions, representing individuals, private firms, listed companies, and multinational corporations, on a wide range of corporate and general business law matters.

The employment team assists corporates and individuals on the contentious and non-contentious aspects of employment law.

The firm’s mergers and acquisition practice is actively involved in Singapore and cross-border M&A transactions across a range of industry sectors, and handles deals including strategic alliances, JVs, M&As, spin-offs and divestitures.

The firm also provides private client services, and advises high-net-worth individuals, financial institutions, professional trustees, executors and personal representatives, on matters such as estate planning, asset preservation, provisions for minors and descendants, and succession planning, utilizing wills, and medical and general powers of attorney.

Drawing on their litigation and M&A practice groups, the firm has a strong Restructuring and Insolvency practice with extensive experience in managing restructurings and bankruptcy situations.

The firm also assists clients in multi-jurisdictional investigations and proceedings on all aspects of white-collar crime and fraud.
