Position
Alan is head of Burness’ corporate department. His practice spans two main areas. He is a funds lawyer and is one of Scotland’s leading experts in relation to the use of Scottish limited partnerships in private equity and other private fund situations. He tends to act on the GP more than the LP side. His funds practice spans both domestic Scottish funds and the Scottish (limited partnership) aspect of City and international centered fund transactions, where he and Burness are considered to be the ‘go to’ individual and firm for many of the leading City and international firms. Alan is a banking lawyer and regularly acts for banks and other financial institutions in relation to a wide range of financings. Alan also regularly acts for City and overseas firms in relation to the Scottish aspects of cross-border financings. On the borrower side he is an expert in relation to debt financing made available to private equity funds. He is qualified in both Scots law and English law.
