Paul is a Partner in our Commercial team, based in Watford, who specialises in commercial, intellectual property, IT and online advice for business clients. Paul is also head of our Pharmaceuticals & Life Sciences sector and has a particular interest in the application of technology. A member of our Brexit Planning team, Paul can provide you with specialist advice relating to the UK's decision to leave the European Union.

Paul runs the thriving networking group, PING (the Pharmaceutical Industry Network Group). In 2013, Paul received an honorary Masters degree from the University of Hertfordshire for his 'contribution to the development of commercial law in the Pharmaceutical and Life Sciences industry'.

Paul writes and blogs widely, presents at conferences (including the Sigma Conference) and appears on BBC radio and in leading national and industry publications relating to life sciences, healthcare and technology issues.

  • online agreements, including marketplace agreements, website terms and conditions, cookies & privacies policies, terms of use and linking agreements

Paul set up PING in 2010 with the mission of helping clients and relationships from across the pharmaceutical supply chain, from manufacturer to pharmacy and others in the sector, to share and develop best practice and connections in a time of great challenge and change. So much good is done in that sector and Paul is proud of the difference his Pharmaceuticals & Life Sciences group has achieved through 'bringing excellence to life, together', the sector’s motto.

VWV's 'very effective' corporate and commercial team in Watford was further strengthened by the firm's acquisition of healthcare specialist Lockharts, bringing on board partnership specialist Paul Werrell. In addition to healthcare, the practice's sector expertise also encompasses pharmaceuticals and life sciences, where clients include Sigma Pharmaceuticals; technology, where it has acted for more than 30 tech start-ups in 2017; education, where the practice has advised on a number of conversion matters for multi-academy trusts; and banking, where it regularly acts on large institutional lending and refinancing transactions, as well as for secondary lenders and borrowers. Richard Phillips heads the team and is 'a very capable lawyer who is also able to see the bigger picture, meaning he can give practical advice not merely legal technical guidance'. In an illustration of the practice's cross-border workload, Phillips acted of the sale of a Norwegian software company to an English purchaser.
