VWV provides ‘user-friendly advice’ at ‘super-competitive rates’. Headed by Mark Hughes, the team is particularly active in the residential development space, where it is instructed by landed estates, development companies and funders. Jon Durham, who is ‘highly competent in investment and development transactions’, advised an estate owner on a development agreement for a multimillion-pound residential development in Southeast England. The team also handles letting mandates for landlords and tenants, which included tenant-side instructions from International Management Group and The National Association of Citizens Advice Bureaux, and landlord-side instructions from SR Properties Manchester and Lush Estate. Kenneth Maxwell and senior associate Leila Inman joined the firm from CMS; Maxwell specialises in property finance and investment and is rated for his ‘ability to resolve seemingly insurmountable issues in debt-funded development work’. Similarly, Stephen Josephides joined from Bolt Burdon.

VWV fields an education team that attracts praise for its 'excellent service and sector knowledge' and for providing 'value for money that is difficult to beat'. The practice has wide-ranging expertise in education-sector matters, although it is in the higher education and further education sectors where it is best known; illustrative clients include The University of Southampton, for which the practice advises on employment matters. Recent work includes defending the client in an employment tribunal claim brought by a former employee for constructive unfair dismissal as well as direct and indirect sex discrimination. The practice also acted for the University of East London on the university's template agreement for the delivery of degree apprenticeships under the government's Apprenticeship Standards. Bettina Rigg heads the education practice from the firm's London office; key figures in Watford include Emma-Jane Dalley and Jon Durham.
