The group also has particular experience in advising medical partnerships and other healthcare clients based on the firm’s 2017 merger with Lockharts. The team is led by ‘excellent’ Jos Moule, who ‘combines legal expertise with technical application’. He is currently advising a major Welsh law firm on its full incorporation, which involves the transfer of the LLP’s business and assets to a new limited company. Nigel Puddicombe was appointed as arbitrator in a dispute involving a dental partnership. Ed Husband is also recommended for contentious matters.

Con Alexander heads the national team at VWV, which acts for more than 1000 charities including national clients such as Citizen Advice and City & Guilds London Institute. It also advises a large number of charitable independent schools and major school charities such as Eton College, Rugby School and Education Development Trust. Other areas of expertise include advising local authorities on charity law and charity trusteeships. The team  advises faith charities as well including the Diocese of Gloucester, the Diocese of Truro and several regional Synods of the United Reformed Church. The team added Paul Voller to its ranks from Bircham Dyson Bell. Both Voller and associate Elizabeth Knight  are praised for being ‘calm and very experienced in charity law’. The group is currently advising on the restructuring of the Nightingale Fellowship and its associated charities to create a single organisation known as ‘One Fellowship’. The recent merger with Lockharts and the arrival of commercial healthcare partner Mark Jarvis from Capsticks LLP  has significantly expanded VWV’s capabilities; the practice specialises in advising GP’s and medical practitioners on M&A, real estate, development and corporate work as well as on contentious matters. Highlights for the team include advising on some of the largest and high-value GP mergers and developments, including for assisting Lewisham Care Partnership with the on-going merger using the Birmingham/ decentralised model. Key contacts within the team are Ben Willis who is ‘extremely well-connected and experienced in commercial real estate’ acts as head of healthcare and is continues to advice on several national large-scale GP mergers. Oliver Pool , appointed partner in 2017 is a commercial expert and regularly assists on GP mergers and contentious matters.

Headed by Mark Hughes, the team is particularly active in the residential development space, where it is instructed by landed estates, development companies and funders. Jon Durham, who is ‘highly competent in investment and development transactions’, advised an estate owner on a development agreement for a multimillion-pound residential development in Southeast England. The team also handles letting mandates for landlords and tenants, which included tenant-side instructions from International Management Group and The National Association of Citizens Advice Bureaux, and landlord-side instructions from SR Properties Manchester and Lush Estate. Kenneth Maxwell and senior associate Leila Inman joined the firm from CMS; Maxwell specialises in property finance and investment and is rated for his ‘ability to resolve seemingly insurmountable issues in debt-funded development work’. Similarly, Stephen Josephides joined from Bolt Burdon.

VWV provides clients with a ‘wonderful overall service’, ‘response times are very good’ and the team is noted for its ability to ‘find cost effective solutions’ to litigation. The firm covers the whole spectrum of commercial and residential property disputes including development disputes, service break notices, lease renewals, claims for possessions, restrictive covenants, easements and dilapidations. Compensation claims following the compulsory acquisition of land are also a niche expertise for the firm. Katie Hickman is ‘very bright and clever with an exceedingly pleasant manner’ and ‘offers solutions with proactive advice’. Michelle Bendall heads the practice and has expertise in leasehold and freehold disputes.
