The firm: Gabriel Law Corporation was founded in 1986 by Mr Peter Gabriel, the managing director of the firm.  Mr Manoj Nandwani is the director of the firm. The firm has a broad spectrum of clientele, ranging from individuals to multinational corporations and investment funds. The firm regularly represents clients in the Court of Appeal, High Court, State Courts and Family Justice Courts, as well as before arbitration tribunals. Occasionally, the firm collaborates with Queen’s Counsel to achieve the best outcome for clients. The firm also has a strong presence in Indonesia and works very closely with particular corporate law firms; The firm’s work in Indonesia includes dispute resolution and arbitration, joint ventures, and mergers and acquisitions.

Areas of practice
Litigation and arbitration: litigation involving banking and finance disputes, commercial and corporate disputes, investigations and asset recovery, tort and contractual claims as well as domestic and international arbitration form the pillars of Mr Gabriel’s expertise. Mr Gabriel is familiar with litigation issues involving but not limited to: advice on courses of action prior to commencing litigation; pre-emptive remedies, such as Mareva, mandatory and prohibitory injunctions; debt recovery, enforcement of claims against borrowers and security providers, including arrest of ships, enforcement of guarantees, charges, mortgages, assignments and trust receipts; corporate litigation, including rights and liabilities of directors, breach of fiduciary duties, shareholders’ disputes, minority shareholders oppression action; banking litigation, including trade financing, wrongful payment by a bank under a letter of credit, unauthorized transactions under a private client banking contract, contracts of guarantee, enforceability of negotiable instruments and Bills of Exchange Act; and receivership, insolvency and judicial management.

Mr Manoj also has a strong practice in commercial and corporate disputes, having experience in litigation and mediation involving complex commercial fraud, shareholders’ and partnership disputes, and insolvency and debt recovery. Mr Manoj has represented a broad range of clients, including individuals, financial institutions, listed companies and foreign governments. Mr Manoj further oversees the firm’s criminal law; employment; family, probate and trusts; and personal injury practice. He was conferred the LASCO Award (Legal Assistance Scheme for Capital Offences) by the Chief Justice in 2012 in recognition of his work in defending those facing capital punishment.

Corporate: Mr Gabriel’s transactional legal work involves banking and finance, cross-border lease finance, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, corporate restructuring, and admiralty-related matters. A selection of the corporate work Mr Gabriel has handled includes: providing ongoing advice to a steel pipe manufacturing business with operations in Thailand and co-ordinating with local Thai counsel on ongoing restructuring and rehabilitation proceedings; acting for a private bank in its banking documentation to clients involving facilities of up to US$35m and advising from time to time on the perfection of security and MAS compliance issues; advising a financial institution on complex aspects of stamp duty, commodity financing deals in China; advising public accountants with regards to operations of listed companies; completed the acquisition of a public listed company in Singapore for a European conglomerate; advising on bilateral and syndicated loan facilities to borrowers from Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Myanmar, Philippines, Hong Kong SAR, China, Vietnam and India; and advising on modes of fundraising, share and asset acquisitions in both listed and unlisted companies.
