Position
Partner and head of department with a broad portfolio of serious and high-profile cases. Vast experience in successfully defending cases of business crime, serious fraud and complex crimes, including corruption and boiler room fraud, all forms of murder including gangland and serial killing, drugs offences ranging from major trafficking to simple possession and serious sexual offences. Instructed to represent City professionals and fellow members of the legal profession (solicitors and the Bar), senior medical consultants, school governors and academics, and high-profile individuals from the worlds of music, entertainment and sport. Retained by leading financial institutions and private companies to represent their directors and employees facing criminal investigation. Appointed by the Legal Services Commission as a supervisor for the Serious Fraud Panel, 2000 to present. Recent high-profile instructions include the rape case of Jack Tweed, a society heir and heiress arrested over drugs allegations, the principal defendant in the ‘Victoria Station’ murder case and a household name construction company investigated by the ‘Rogue Traders’ television programme. His department also represented two school governors investigated over alleged corruption in relation to remuneration at a high-achieving London state school and two cases of multimillion-pound fraud allegations involving the Department of Work and Pensions including the main defendant charged following one of the largest ever fraud investigations by a government department. Renowned for his intuitive and tenacious approach to the Specialist Prosecution Agencies (Serious Fraud Office, Serious Organised Crime Agency, Revenue and Customs) during both the pre-charge investigative stage and post-charge in pursuing full disclosure.
