Special Gala Screening of The Angels’ Share
Bindmans was delighted to support the South Camlachie Youth Project at the special gala screening of The Angels’ Share on 31 May at the BFI Southbank, London.
The Angels’ Share is Ken Loach's 27th feature film. As in many previous films directed by Ken, Bindmans provided the legal team. It is scripted by regular collaborator Paul Laverty and was the only UK entry at last month’s Cannes Film Festival, winning the prestigious Jury prize. See link here:
Set in Glasgow, it stars newcomer Paul Brannigan as Robbie, an ex-offender and new father for whom a trip to a whisky distillery may point the way to a new career and, possibly, a rather less orthodox way out of poverty. The film opened in the UK on 1 June.
Guests joined Bindmans hosts for a special screening followed by a Q&A session with Director Ken Loach and screenwriter Paul Laverty. Afterwards, guests were invited to mingle at a drinks and canapés reception.
Money from the ticket sales will not go to the South Camlachie Youth Project but Stephen Grosz and Paul Laverty made an appeal for donations at the reception. The Project is an organisation based in the community of Barrowfield in the heart of the East End of Glasgow. It provides a range of services for children and young people aged 8-24 years with personal development, core skill building and empowerment at the heart of the work.
Examples of the work they do include drop-in activities, group-work, a football programme, streetwork, and information and advice on topics such as developing a CV, applying for Benefits, providing a reference for Court, mock interviews or sexual health advice.
