Bindmans lawyers shortlisted for LALY Awards
Liz Barratt and Paul Ridge have been short-listed for the prestigious Legal Aid Lawyer of the Year Awards 2012.
Liz is a finalist in the Immigration Lawyer category and Paul is a finalist in the Social Welfare category.
Liz’s nominator, Kathryn Cronin, barrister at Garden Court Chambers said: “Liz’s commitment and contribution to legally aided immigrant and asylum clients is highly significant and she is more than deserving of the award of Legal Aid Lawyer of the Year.” The judges said: “Her work challenging the removal of children led to the suspension of child returns from the UK. Her nomination was supported by a former asylum client who has gone on to train as a social worker.”
Paul’s nominator, Pete Phoenix, the veteran road protester and member of the occupy movement said: “It is people like Paul that help ordinary people and the movement to protect the rights that we still have left in this country. He is a superstar, a legend amongst the alternative protesters.”
The winners of the LALY Awards 2012 will be announced at the awards ceremony in London on 12 June.
