The group acted as the administrators on the first bank to be formally placed in administration in Bahrain. Trowers & Hamlins continued to win new clients such as Unicorn Investment Bank, the Electricity and Water Authority, and BNP Paribas. The group advised a consortium on the $110m acquisition of Qatar Engineering & Construction from Qatar Shipping. It received an increasing number of instructions from Bahrain Airport Company, including drafting and implementing a suite of best practice documents and advising on the transfer of the entire airport business from Civil Aviation Affairs. The team recently advised Global Investment House on establishing a $1.5bn global macro fund. Dominic O’Neil, Abdullah Mutawi and Bill Jefferies are recommended.

Islamic finance

Trowers & Hamlins’ Neale Downes advised Gulf Finance House on a $100m convertible murabaha facility, and acted for Capinnova Investment Bank and its partners (First Leasing Bank and INTL Capital) on establishing a Bahrain-domiciled, open-ended $100m ijara fund. Other clients include TAB Energy, Bahrain Islamic Bank, and the Central Bank of Bahrain. Jeremy Ingham was promoted to partner.
