Position
Partner and Head of Transactional Practice Profile - Mr. Dewan heads the corporate law practice of K.R.Chawla & Co. and specialises in Foreign Investment in India, Corporate Laws, Mergers and Acquisitions, Joint Ventures, Cross Border Financing and Investment Transactions, Technology Transfer, Securities Law, SEBI Takeover Regulations, Banking and Finance, Information Technology, Real Estate. Mr. Dewan has considerable experience in handling venture capital investments and private equity transactions and has been instrumental in assisting numerous Indian companies in listing their equity (ies) on overseas stock exchanges, in the form of Global Depository Receipts (GDRs)/Foreign Currency Convertible Bonds (FCCBs) and advising clients on all aspects of making a public offer in an international or a non-local market, on issues ranging from Indian exchange control regulations, securities regulations, taxation, repatriation and utilization of proceeds, etc. Mr. Dewan has assisted over forty (40) Indian companies in listing on global stock exchanges such as Luxembourg Stock Exchange, Singapore Exchange Securities Trading Limited, Dubai International Financial Exchange. Career
Mr. Dewan has contributed to various international journals and has authored “Product liability in the Asia Pacific”, “Chapter on Public Procurement Laws in India” published by the Center for International Studies. He writes a column for First Franchising, a franchising magazine in India and has been a regular speaker at various international conferences and organizations such as Asia Law India Summit, Singapore Infocomm Technology Federation, Key Media, Singapore and International University(ies) such as National University of Singapore (NUS). Mr. Dewan is one of few lawyers in India to be admitted as an Honorary fellow of the Association of Fellows and Legal Scholars, Center for International Studies; and Member of Congress of Fellows of the Center for International Legal Studies. He has also been nominated on Direct Taxes and Intellectual Property Committee of Assocham (Chambers of Commerce in India). Mr. Dewan has been nominated by AsiaLaw Leading Lawyers survey 2007, 2008 and 2009 as one of the most highly-acclaimed legal experts in the Asia-Pacific region in the practice area - Capital Markets & Corporate Finance. Mr. Dewan has been instrumental in setting up the firm’s global office(s) in San Francisco (USA) and representative office in Singapore.
