Karen is a Solicitor Advocate with extended rights of audience in the Supreme Court, Privy Council and the Court of Session. She was admitted as a solicitor in 2000 and has specialised in litigation throughout her legal career. Karen has a thorough knowledge of the practice and procedure in the Court of Session. She has acted in a wide variety of cases both directly and as Edinburgh agent throughout her career. She has also appeared regularly in Sheriff Courts on behalf of both pursuers and defenders.

For the last 7 years Karen has predominantly acted for Defenders in a wide range of insurance cases in commercial and civil litigation. She deals with claims in both the Court of Session and Sheriff Court, specialising in professional indemnity and personal injury actions. Professional indemnity practice includes actions against solicitors and engineers. She has particular experience of acting for the Law Society of Scotland Master Policy insurers.

Karen acted as solicitor advocate for insurance clients in defending personal injury and medical negligence cases in the Court of Session. Her personal injury practice included employers’ liability cases, public liability cases and road traffic claims. She conducts court hearings and pre-trial meetings.

Karen has previous experience of dealing with many aspects of commercial litigation, including contractual and property disputes, debt recovery, interdict, appeals, and Judicial Review. Karen has a sharp analytical legal mind, with an ability to see the wider picture. She takes a pragmatic approach and seeks to offer clients the best possible advice in a prepared and helpful manner.


  • Acted in a successful appeal of an opposed Guardianship application, subsequently securing appointment on behalf of client without need for proof
  • Successfully secured abandonment of personal injury case against client where pursuer had valued claim at £850,000
  • Acted in a number of complex personal injury and medical negligence cases involving claims of over £1,000,000.
  • Managed caseload of and acted on behalf of Communications Workers Union in relation to personal injury actions.
  • Acted in a number of complex and high value commercial actions in the Court of Session.
  • Responsible for the development and management of the sheriff court agency whilst at Lindsays.
  • Considerable experience in advising on local authorities’ specific legal requirements as well as raising and defending all types of court action, including interdict actions, licensing appeals and judicial review.
