Career

Prior to joining Llinks, Mr. Mei was responsible for the Beijing and Tianjin practices of a leading Shanghai firm.

In the area of banking and finance, Mr. Mei regularly represents foreign and domestic financial institutions handling transactions involving bilateral and syndicated lending, project finance, trade finance, financial lease, credit cards, credit asset transfers, NPL disposals, templates drafting/reviewing, compliance advice and issuing memos and legal opinions.

In the area of dispute resolution, Mr. Mei represents various clients (including financial institutions) in commercial disputes. Mr. Mei recently successfully represented an International Finance Corporation in its first arbitration case and litigation case in China.

In the areas of M&A/Restructuring and general corporate law, Mr. Mei regularly represents multi-national corporations and handles their mergers and acquisitions in China, and also assists them in establishing wholly foreign owned enterprises and joint ventures in China. In addition to this, he also assists domestic companies in going abroad for investments.

Mr. Mei was listed over the years as a leading individual in Banking & Finance by Chambers Global, Chambers Asia-Pacific, Legal 500 and International Financial Law Review 1000.

Mr. Mei graduated from Fudan University with a bachelor's degree in 1988. From 1997 to 1998, Mr. Mei studied English law at London University and trained with law firms in both London and Hong Kong as part of a legal education program sponsored by the British government.

Acting for domestic and international banks and non-bank lenders, borrowers and export credit agencies, the team has extensive expertise in project finance and is regularly involved in cross-border multi-currency financing transactions. Key contacts in the department include Michael Mei and Charles Chen, who acted for a Chinese policy bank in relation to the provision of a high-value loan for the acquisition of certain upstream energy contracts. Additionally, the pair advised the Hong Kong branch of an international bank on its provision of an acquisition finance loan, and also has experience in ship finance. Moreover, the team has grown significantly in 2017-2018, with a host of lateral hires and promotions.
