Believing that clients would prefer working with lawyers who understand the climate within which they operate, how their business actually works day to day, and operating together with them as a team, Taylors decided from the outset on its formation to adopt a sector-level approach. This has resulted in the firm's demonstrable reputation in a number of key industry areas. These include its home furnishings group, manufacturing group, creative industries and asset-based lenders recovery team.

Many of the firm's commercial clients have been with it for over ten years, some since its inception, demonstrating the success of this strategy.

It also has teams led by well-known individuals advising on copyright disputes, shareholder disputes and regulatory matters.

Types of work undertaken: Commercial: expertise includes agency and distribution agreements, commercial contracts, joint ventures and partnerships, manufacturing agreements, long-term supply agreement, partnership and LLP membership agreements, and outsourcing agreements.

Corporate deals and corporate finance: the team advises across the spectrum of business transactions including company and business disposals, fund raising, mergers and acquisitions, partnerships and LLPs, private equity and venture capital investments, restructuring and reorganisations, shareholders and joint venture agreements, MBOs and LBOs.

Commercial disputes: experienced across a range of disputes including commercial contract disputes, trading disputes, shareholder disputes, professional negligence and enforcement of restrictive covenants, and mis-sold interest rate hedging clauses.

Employment and HR: the team provides both general and strategic HR advice and support for its commercial clients, representation in employment tribunals and courts, drafting contracts, policies and handbooks, internal HR support and tailored in-house training, as well as support for its insolvency and turnaround team on restructuring.

Insolvency business support and restructuring: advises on all formal and informal insolvency procedures including administrations, bankruptcy, claims against directors, guarantees, company voluntary arrangements, creditors' rights on insolvency, landlords' rights on insolvency, directors' disqualifications, liquidations, receiverships, restructuring, turnaround and refinancing.

Commercial property: all aspects of real estate matters including acquisitions and disposals, landlord and tenant, property finance, property insolvency and a specialist team providing bridging and commercial finance support.

Regulatory: the team provides solutions to complex problems that arise from the laws and policies governing advertising standards, sales promotions, product recall, pricing and consumer protection and health and safety issues. It also handles financial standards authorities complaints and MHRA regulatory issues and investigations.

IP and IT disputes: the team regularly advises the creative industries and the IT and technology industries on copyright and design infringement issues, trade mark protection and patent disputes, breach of confidence actions. It regularly deals with the enforcement of IT agreements including software licensing and support agreements and IPR ownership disputes.

Technology: includes drafting and negotiating service legal agreements, ICT outsourcing, managed service provision, website design and development terms, software as a service, data protection issues, and social media issues and enforcement of the same.
