Partner and Head of the award-winning Employment Team specialising in all aspects of employment law.


Stephen acts for companies based in the UK, Europe, Australia and the USA in sector specifics including technology, financial services, manufacturing and retail. He provides commercial and employment advice on all aspects of employment law, from the beginning of the employment relationship through to the end of the employment relationship and post termination.  He is often appointed by companies to assist with strategic business decisions. 

Stephen also acts for senior executives and TV & radio presenters in public and in high profile matters. He is often involved in successfully resolving boardroom issues and disputes.

Stephen has a great deal of experience in employment related anti-competition injunction claims in the High Court and in particular the successful enforcement of and defence of restrictive covenant actions. He is regularly instructed to advise on team moves. He is as familiar in the Employment Tribunal as he is in the High Court. 

He also deals with industrial relation and multi-jurisdiction employment law matters and in particular issues surrounding TUPE and employee status.

Stephen also acted in one of the most high profile whistleblowing cases which ran for several years and resulted in an award in excess of £1.2 million.

Stephen heads the Ashfords Employment Team, which recently won "Employment Team of the Year" at The Lawyer Awards 2016.

Stephen is often invited to speak on radio to share his views and has contributed to Radio 5, Radio 2 (Jeremy Vine), LBC and BBC Birmingham.

Stephen holds membership in the Employment Lawyers Association, International Bar Association and the New York Bar Association.

Stephen has been recognised in Chambers and Legal 500, and is also a previous Times Lawyer of the Week.

It is experienced in dealing with complex Employment Tribunal claims and High Court litigation and is regarded for its experience in the private healthcare and retail sectors. It also has a track record enforcing and defending restrictive covenant claims and assisting clients with drafting employment contracts, staff handbooks and policy documents. Practice head Stephen Moore provides ongoing advice to a number of McDonald’s franchises on Employment Tribunal claims, disciplinary procedures, union activity, and immigration matters . He also advises Post Office on TUPE, employment matters and negotiating settlement agreements. Associate Kim Wright deals with discrimination claims, breach of contract, TUPE, restrictive covenant claims, holiday pay and business sales and acquisitions.

Ashfords LLP Exeter advises local, national and international clients on issues related to TUPE, local government pension schemes, collective redundancy consultation processes, termination of senior executives, and settlement agreements. It also handles insolvency-related employment issues and tribunal litigation. Clients include The Royal Devon & Exeter NHS Foundation Trust, foe which it providing advice on contentious issues such as whistleblowing, unfair dismissal, discrimination, and representation at employment tribunals, as well as non-contentious matters. It also acts for Hello Fresh, a food and recipe box distributor, on TUPE issues, senior employee performance and exits, disciplinary action and service agreements. Recent work includes advising catering company Somerset Larder on a severance package for a managing director. The London Boroughs of Wandsworth and Richmond and The Roald Dahl Literary Estate are additional clients Stephen Moore heads the team, which includes Charles Pallot, who has expertise in TUPE, redundancy consultation processes and managing senior employee relationships; senior associate Kirsty Cooke, who specialises in complex tribunal litigation, staff management issues and insolvency matters; legal director Su Apps, who handles industrial relations matters; and  senior associate Chloe Ricciardi, (now no longer with Ashfords) who handled discrimination and whistleblowing litigation.
