Position

Andrew has significant experience advising on some of the largest and most complex construction/infrastructure/energy projects undertaken in both Australia and internationally (particularly in the Middle East, Europe and Africa). He has advised a wide variety of industry participants, including Project Financiers; Project Sponsors; Contractors; and Subcontractors in connection with the planning, delivery and execution of major projects spanning a wide range of industry sectors.

In addition, Andrew is a qualified Civil Engineer and has obtained practical, hands-on experience in the projects, engineering and construction industry. Prior to joining Maddocks in 2007, Andrew worked as part of the construction and major projects team at Clifford Chance in London as well of some of Australia’s largest law firms.

Maddocks’ team handled matters in the residential, transport and infrastructure sectors, coupled with a busy back-end practice. Andrew Pitney heads the six-partner team; he advised WBHO Infrastructure on its successful bid for the design and construction in relation to the Outer Suburban Arterial Roads PPP, the largest road-upgrade project in Victoria to date. Andrew Chapman assisted TfNSW with the Blue Mountains Route Clearance project, which involves the modification of tunnels, station platforms and rail lines in the Blue Mountains. The recommended Alicia Sheridan advised the Lendlease–Bouygues–John Holland consortium on contracting arrangements regarding its successful bid for the large-scale Melbourne Metro Rail Tunnel project. In the property sector, Mathew Stulic represented Watpac in litigation regarding a commercial high-rise development in Sydney’s CBD. Special counsels Sefton Warner and Declan Manly joined from Norton Rose Fulbright and the Victorian Bar, respectively.

Maddocks focuses on infrastructure work; the six-partner team, led by Andrew Chapman, Simone Holding and Andrew Pitney, has a strong state and Commonwealth government client base. Chapman advised TfNSW on its Blue Mountains Route Clearance project, and Pitney and Alicia Sheridan assisted WBHO Infrastructure with the Outer Suburban Arterial Roads PPP, the largest roads upgrade and maintenance project in Victoria to date. VicRoads instructed the team in relation to its state-wide Safe System Road Infrastructure programme for the installation of flexible barriers on Victoria’s highways.

  • Bär & Karrer Advised Cembra Money Bank on the Financing of the Acquisition of cashgate

    Cembra Money Bank has agreed to acquire cashgate. The purchase price for the acquisition of cashgate and the refinancing of cashgate's loan portfolio is partly backed by a bridge facility and is financed and refinanced by the sale of treasury shares (gross proceeds of CHF 112.8 million) in an accelerated bookbuilding, the placement of CHF 150 million perpetual additional Tier 1 bonds and CHF 250 million net share settled convertible bonds.
  • Bär & Karrer Successfully Represents PNK Group Company in SCAI-Arbitration

    Bär & Karrer successfully represented a company acting under the trademark of PNK Group, a major developer of industrial facilities in Russia, against a Western European concrete plant engineering and manufacturing company in a SCAI-arbitration concerning the delivery of (defective) equipment. After full-fledged proceedings including a hearing with several technical experts, the client was awarded partial rescission of the contract (as requested) with returning of certain defective equipment against refund of its cost, a substantial price reduction with regard to the rest of the equipment, as well as a contractual penalty payment and reimbursement for 75% of all legal costs. Team members were Matthew Reiter and Désirée Schreyer (both arbitration).
