Position

Richard focuses particularly on negotiating the financial aspects of divorce (and civil partnership dissolution), separation and preparing pre-nuptial and post-nuptial agreements. Commonly these matters will have an international element and, with pre-nuptial and post-nuptial agreements especially, Richard is accustomed to liaising with lawyers in several different jurisdictions. His private client background also gives him an aptitude for dealing with cases with complex tax and trust issues.

Career

Richard graduated from Oxford University (1997) before undertaking his training contract at Slaughter and May. Upon qualification in 2001 he practised initially as a corporate tax lawyer at Slaughter and May before then moving to Speechly Bircham as a private client tax and trusts lawyer (and subsequently as a family lawyer). He was promoted to the partnership at Speechly Bircham in the family team in May 2009 and joined Stewarts Law in May 2011. Publications of note: Richard has authored several articles for professional journals and has been quoted many times in the national and international press. He has also presented at a number of conferences both in the UK and abroad, especially on the topics of civil partnerships and pre-nuptial agreements.
