Partner and head of Technology & Media. With over twenty years' experience in business and law, Gary has amassed a wealth of knowledge on outsourcing, information technology and digital business (including Blockchain and AI), data privacy, intellectual property, procurement, financial regulation and other general commercial law matters.

As well as regularly advising technology businesses, Gary also has particular expertise advising clients operating in the insurance sector, providing specialist commercial law advice on insurance distribution arrangements (including affinity partnerships), outsourcings (both onshore and offshore), IT projects (including Insurtech) and complex cross-border data privacy matters.


Started career in IT, working for a number of years as a project manager for BT, gaining valuable industry knowledge handling major outsourcing arrangements for clients in the IT and defence sectors. Gary later changed career path, training and qualifying as a lawyer at Nabarro.

Before joining Stevens & Bolton LLP, spent eight years in the Commercial/IT/IP team at Clyde & Co. During his time there, he also undertook high profile secondments to RSA, ACE and Swiss Re.

Stevens & Bolton LLP's practice head Beverley Whittaker, who has more than 25 years of commercial contracts experience, assists clients with procurement, marketing agreements and supply of services, among other matters. Beverley Flynn is another seasoned commercial lawyer, who also leads the firm's data protection work. Nicola Broadhurst heads up the firm's franchising practice, while Gary Parnell is the technology and media head. Another key figure is Gustaf Duhs, who is knowledgeable about the interplay between commercial contracts and regulatory issues in sectors such as fintech, life sciences and telecommunications. Stevens & Bolton LLP 's Guildford-based intellectual property team is highlighted as 'excellent', particularly for contentious matters. The department successfully defended Future Publishing in claims of breach of contract, misrepresentation and trade mark revocation brought by Edge Interactive and Edge Games. In another work highlight practice head Tom Lingard led the successful representation of Snapbook Photo Printing Studio in trade mark infringement proceedings in both the UK and Poland. The group is also instructed by Kia Motors (UK), Accord Healthcare and new clients Samsung and Nintendo. Charlotte Tillett is another key name to note, Tillet and Lingard both attract praise for being 'responsive and pragmatic in their advice'. Gary Parnell and Nicola Broadhurst are singled out for technology sector matters and licensing of brands through franchising respectively.
