The firm
GFE Law, founded on 28 August 1984, was among the first firms established after China’s restoration of legal order. In 1985, the firm was elected by the Ministry of Justice as one of the principal law firms in China dealing with foreign-related matters. In 1993, the firm was among the first 35 law firms in China authorised by the Ministry of Justice and the China Security Regulatory Commission to advise on matters relating to listed companies and securities. The firm was recognised by the Ministry of Justice as one of China’s ‘model law firms’ in 1998, and was among the first law firms awarded ‘National Excellent Law Firm’ status in 2005. Equipped with legal talents and modern facilities, the firm has grown into one of the leading law firms in China specialising in foreign-related matters.
People are the firm’s focus and future: the firm places great emphasis on recruiting legal talents with strong academic backgrounds, breadth of experience and foreign language abilities, to ensure the practice and services are of the highest professional standards. Senior lawyers, specialists, overseas students and LLM graduates are recruited to display their talents and to realise their potential. They are motivated by the firm’s common goal: to provide clients with efficient and high-level services.
The firm offers clients both contentious and non-contentious legal services. In non-contentious cases, services include initial strategic planning, issuing legal opinions, providing both general and specific legal advice, drafting and preparing relevant documentation, conducting negotiations, handling legal procedures and issuing letters of demand. In contentious matters (including arbitration), the firm is able to represent its clients in court hearings and to advise on all aspects of property preservation measures, and the enforcement of court judgments and arbitral awards.
Over the years, GFE Law Office has built up stable, long-term relationships with firms in a number of jurisdictions, including the US, the UK, France, the Netherlands, Japan, Singapore, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. As a result, the firm is able to participate in lawyer exchange programmes, share legal information and develop its international practice through mutual client referral. These help GFE Law Office provide its clients with all-aspect services.
