Manfred Otto is a New York lawyer who advises clients on international corporate matters, including incorporation, joint ventures, cross-border mergers and acquisitions, tax, securities, intellectual property and technology as well as resolving related disputes.

The Legal 500 recommends Mr. Otto as one of the few Next Generation Lawyers for Corporate and M&A in its 2018 Asia Pacific guide. Based in Vietnam, he is head of the firm's Japan Practice and a co-founder of the Blockchain Technology Practice. Mr. Otto has lived in Asia for more than 15 years and worked in New York, London and Tokyo.

Duane Morris Vietnam LLC handles a range of work, ranging from cross-border M&A deals through to commercial contracts, outsourcing and franchising. Giles Cooper and senior associate Manfred Otto (who leads the firm's Japan desk in Vietnam) assisted Mulwarra Export with purchasing its Vietnamese distributor, and advised Yellow Star Investment on purchasing a minority stake in a health care business. Oliver Massmann handles a range of solar projects including assisting TCP Asia Pacific with a plan to develop six solar plants totaling 420MW in Myanmar, and alongside special counsel Hoang Minh Duc, is advising Greencells Group on various projects in Vietnam. In addition to its green energy work, Giles Cooper is assisting Sembcorp Utilities with the 225MW gas-fired Myingyan project in Myanmar and senior associate Manfred Otto has expertise in wastewater projects.

    On 6/20/2012, the National Assembly voted to adopt the Law on Price (the "LOP") in response to the public demand for an effective legal framework to control price manipulation from dominant enterprises such as gasoline, electricity, etc. The law will take effect from 01/01/2013 and repeal Ordinance No. 40/2002/PL-UBTVQH10 dated 26/4/2002 of the National Assembly Standing Committee (the "Ordinance"), which is conceived as outdated and containing certain provisions contravening the WTO’s regulation. This article describes the main features of the law and provides some insight into its potential impacts on the Vietnamese economy.
