Position

Marievic G. Ramos-Añonuevo is a partner in SyCip Salazar Hernandez & Gatmaitan. She has been in law practice for 30 years and has acquired substantial experience advising major local and foreign clients in the fields of banking, project finance, privatization, infrastructure, foreign investments, mergers and acquisitions, corporate rehabilitation and restructuring, securities and land acquisition and development.

She worked on the financing of the Manila North Tollway Project involving the rehabilitation and expansion of the North Luzon Expressway, where she represented a syndicate of lending institutions that included multilateral and export credit agencies, including the Philippine Export-Import Bank, and commercial banks. This project was the recipient of the 2001 Asian Legal Deal of the Year Award - Project Finance from the International Financial Law Review.

She also worked on the equity financing for the acquisition by National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) of the concession to operate and rehabilitate the national transmission grid and sub-transmission assets of the National Transmission Corporation (Transco). This is said to be the single biggest and most significant privatization ever to be conducted by the Republic of the Philippines. This project helped earn for her firm the citation by the International Financial Law Review as Philippine Law Firm of the Year for the eighth consecutive time over a nine-year period.

Ms. Añonuevo has advised several banks that have extended financing to companies engaged in the development of condominium buildings, power plants, manufacturing plants, hotels and casinos and in mining activities. In the latter case, she helped structure the refinancing of obligations owed by the borrower-mining company to Philippine Export-Import Bank, the Philippine export credit agency.

Ms. Añonuevo has participated in various capacities in mergers and acquisitions involving major banking institutions, public utilities in the telecommunications, gas, water and transportation sectors as well as manufacturing and business process outsourcing companies and call centers. She currently sits as company corporate secretary or assistant company secretary in more than 50 companies that are doing business in various sectors of industry in the Philippines, including pharmaceutical, banking and finance, advertising, manufacturing, real estate and property development, venture capital and retail and wholesale trading.

Career

She joined SyCipLaw in 1983 as an associate. She became a senior associate in 1988 and a partner in 1993.

She has been cited in Chambers Asia-Pacific's Leading Lawyers for Business (2012) as a key individual for Corporate/M&A and in Who's Who Legal as a leading public procurement lawyer in the Philippines.
