Law firm Silverbeck Rymer has continued its ongoing expansion by promoting Sally Raeburn to Partner.

Previously an Associate Partner at the firm, Sally joined Silverbeck Rymer in 1995 having completed her training contract in 1994. Starting in the Personal Injury department, she has remained a strategic player in this area and currently specialises in the niche area of catastrophic injury.

Sally is a member of the Association of Personal Injury lawyers (Advanced Litigator) and a keen supporter of both the Spinal Injuries Association and Headway. Sally is active in all current affair issues that impact on the profession and in 2003 she was elected to the Liverpool Law Society committee.

In addition to her technical duties, Sally will assume the role of Mentor to trainee solicitors and qualified staff at Silverbeck Rymer.

    In Harrow LBC v Ayiku [2012] EWHC 1200 (Admin) Sales J held that the word “or” in the Council Tax (Exempt Dwellings) Order 1992, art 3 Class N, had a disjunctive meaning, therefore it was sufficient for the non-British spouse of a foreign student to satisfy one or other of the two conditions, namely being prevented from taking paid employment or being prevented from claiming benefits, in order to qualify as a “relevant person” who was exempted from liability to pay council tax.
