Sandy is our head of corporate. She is a lawyer with few borders. Her career has focused on international corporate transactions, specialising in public and private mergers and acquisitions and equity capital markets transactions.

Sandy has spent a significant part of her career practising at a top magic circle firm in London and Hong Kong and at two global investment banks and has advised on numerous cross border transactions, including in India and China.

She has a strong background in regulated M&A, including schemes of arrangement, takeovers and dual-listed company structures. Sandy also advises on private M&A transactions, equity raisings, corporate restructures, buy-backs, ASIC and ASX regulatory work, foreign investment regulations and general corporate and commercial transactions.

Corrs Chambers Westgarth practises across ECM, DCM and securitisation including high-yield financings, non-bank lending and equity raisings. Perth-based Russell Philip acted for Dacian Gold on a A$110m equity raising by way of institutional placement and accelerated entitlement offer, Sandy Mak assisted Restaurant Brands New Zealand with its foreign exempt listing on the ASX, and Christian Owen advised Greenstone Resources on its role in a combined equity and debt fundraising by Heron Resources. The team also fields debt and securitisation expert Brad Robinson, who is particularly active in the warehouse financing sector and transactions involving non-bank lenders, practice head Robert Regan and ECM specialist Jeremy Horwood, who regularly handles transactions in the energy, natural resources and financial services sectors.

Corrs Chambers Westgarth’s capabilities encompass the technology, media and telecoms, healthcare, energy and real estate sectors. The 34-partner team, which is headed by Sandy Mak, maintains a busy China desk. It has been bolstered by Adam Foreman joining from Clayton Utz; Kon Mellos, who has a focus on advising financial institutions, from Herbert Smith Freehills; and Fadi Khoury from Norton Rose Fulbright. Jonathan Farrer is representing the Life Without Barriers and Cerebral Palsy Alliance on its successful bids as part of the NSW government privatisation process for disability services. Justin Fox assisted SMS Management & Technology with its proposed acquisition by ASX-listed technology services management company DWS; he also acted for Southern Cross Media Group on the sale of its Northern NSW Television operations to WIN. Cross-border work included Mak’s advice to a Singapore-based security company on the acquisition of one of Australia’s largest privately owned security companies. Special counsel Joanne Dwyer is also recommended.
