Work Department

Private client - family

Position

Neil is a partner and national head of the family team. His specialism is the financial aspect of relationship breakdown and he acts for clients from across the UK and overseas, many of whom have a ‘profile’ and substantial assets. Clients value the discreet, expert service provided by this experienced team. Particular expertise involves: significant wealth; the valuation of businesses; hidden assets and lifestyle issues; inherited wealth and non-disclosure of assets. Neil works closely with an in-house forensic accountant and cases range from that involving informal round table discussions to Court proceedings which can be multi-party and cross-jurisdictional. The combination of the new Family team in England and our existing Family team in Edinburgh means Shoosmiths is extremely well placed to act in cases where clients may benefit financially from proceedings in one jurisdiction rather than the other.

Career

Qualified 1984; joined Shoosmiths as partner in 2014 to head the family team. Listed as a prominent figure in the Citiwealth Leaders List; registered lawyer with the professional Footballers’ Association.
