Position

Roy is a partner who represents and defends companies which are being investigated or prosecuted by the regulatory authorities. The scope of work undertaken covers legal issues in relation to corporate manslaughter, involuntary manslaughter, health and safety, product liability, bribery, corruption, fraud, trading standards, environmental health and food safety, corporate crime, money laundering, trading, FOIA and licensing matters. Roy works for a wide range of companies in a variety of sectors including oil and gas, construction, rail, manufacturing, retail, facilities management, health care, food, energy, sport, entertainment, warehousing, banking, pharmaceuticals and services. His significant health and safety cases include the Humber Refinery explosion in 2001 (ConocoPhillips), the Buncefield explosion in 2005 (Total), the Hillsborough investigation and many fatal accident investigations and prosecutions.

Birmingham City Council 1988-93 (training contract and then upon qualification an assistant solicitor); associate Edge & Ellison 1993-98; DLA Piper: partner 1998 to 2016.

Roy Tozer leads the team and recently defended a principal contractor whose sub contractor fell from a significant height while working on the refurbishment of a tower block.  Hayley Saunders  is also a key figure and recently advised the site manager of Westgreen Construction whose window frames fell and killed a member of the public in Hanover Square. Senior associate Claire Morrissey joined from DLA Piper UK LLP  in 2017 and has significant expertise in dealing with inquiries and investigations.
