Position

Romesh Abraham is a senior partner of the firm. He has been a litigation partner in the firm since 1991 and is currently Head of the Labour and Industrial Disputes Department of the firm. His areas of practice include employment and administrative law and general tort and insurance claims. He has appeared in arbitrations conducted under the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) pertaining to cross border joint venture and telecommunications disputes. Romesh has represented clients on a variety of employment disputes in the Industrial Court, High Court and at appellate level. He has also advised and acted as counsel in administrative and planning law issues and disputes involving local authorities.

Career

Romesh was called to the Malaysian Bar in May, 1984 and joined the firm as an associate in the same year. He was made a partner in 1991.

Shook Lin & Bok gains recognition for its ‘pragmatic advice paired with deep-knowledge of the sector’. The ‘vastly experienced team’ acts for clients in complex related civil disputes, banking and finance claims, and international arbitration. Yoong Sin Min led in the representation of Maybank and others, as the noteholders, in a dispute concerning the interpretation of terms contained in a trust deed, with a total value of close to RM327m. It is acting for Public Bank (the defendant) in a case concerning banks’ duty of secrecy and confidentiality, with a value claim of RM350m. Nagarajah Muttiah, Romesh Abraham, Lam Ko Luen, Sudharsanan Thillainathan and Chan Kok Keong are all notable practitioners.

At Shook Lin & Bok, Romesh Abraham leads the practice, which represents clients in an array of labour-related litigation including disputes relating to trade matters, collective agreements, non-compliance and dismissals. It acts for, among other clients, banks, financial, commercial and professional services companies, educational institutions and pharmaceuticals. Abraham advised a financial institution on a claim by a trade union.
