Kim & Chang was named the best law firm in Korea by the International Law Office's (ILO) Client Choice Awards 2012. In particular, Ms. Eun Jin Jung of our firm was selected this year as an individual winner in the intellectual property practice area in Korea.

Kim & Chang was recognized as a top-tier law firm on tax-related matter in Tax Directors Handbook 2012, which is published by Legalease, a leading UK publisher of legal market information. The firm also ranked 12th in the "Law Firm Tax 100" which lists the world's leading law firms by size of tax department. Kim & Chang is the only law firm in Korea ranked in the Law Firm Tax 100.

Kim & Chang was recognized in Asia Pacific Legal 500 (2012 edition), which is published by Legalease, a leading UK publisher of legal market information, as a top-tier law firm for all 14 practice areas surveyed. Kim & Chang is the only law firm in Korea to receive a top ranking in all surveyed areas.

In the Asialaw Profiles 2012, a publication of Asia Law & Practice that is affiliated with Euromoney, Kim & Chang was ranked as the top firm in Korea in the following 9 practice areas: Banking & Finance, Corporate/M&A, Construction & Real Estate, Dispute Resolution, Intellectual Property, IT, Telco & Media, Labour & Employment, Shipping Maritime & Aviation and Tax.

In the 2012 edition of IFLR 1000, a Euromoney publication, Kim & Chang was recognized as a top-tier law firm for all five practice areas surveyed: capital markets, mergers and acquisitions, competition, banking and project finance, and restructuring and insolvency. Kim & Chang is the only law firm in Korea to receive a top ranking in all surveyed areas.

Kim & Chang was awarded the "Korea Deal Firm of the Year" at the ALB Hong Kong Law Awards 2011, which was organized by ALB (Asian Legal Business), a renowned legal publication in Asia.

The China Law & Practice, which is published by Asia Law & Practice, affiliated with Euromoney, presented its annual Awards in Beijing, celebrating China's most innovative legal deals of 2010/2011 and the firms that completed them. Kim & Chang was selected as a winner of Korea Firm of the Year.

ADR in Asia Conference 2011, which was hosted by the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC) and sponsored by Kim & Chang, was held on September 28, 2011 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Hong Kong.

For a second consecutive year, our firm and the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) held a joint seminar titled "Singapore Arbitration for Korean Companies" on August 31, 2011 at the Lotte Hotel Seoul with Mr. Minn Naing Oo and Ms. Rachel Foxton of SIAC as key speakers.

In the mergermarket M&A League Tables of Legal Advisers for H1 2011, Kim & Chang ranked first in Korea as well as in the Asia region (excluding Japan), based on deal count.

The "Competition Law Conference" which was presented by the International Bar Association's (IBA) Antitrust Committee and supported by the Korean Bar Association (KBA), was held at Millennium Hilton Hotel in Seoul on April 28 - 29, 2011 with around 160 professionals in attendance.

The 2011 Global Financial Conference, organized by Korea Business News and The Korea Economic Daily Media Group, was held at Shilla Hotel Seoul on March 9-10, 2011.

The IBA (International Bar Association) held its annual "International Arbitration Day" event at Shilla Hotel Seoul on March 3 - 4, 2011 on the theme of "The inherent powers of arbitral tribunals: good faith, ethics and efficiency in international arbitration.

In the 2011 edition of the Chambers Global Guide, a leading global law firm directory published by Chambers and Partners, Kim & Chang was ranked as the top firm in Korea in the following 5 practice areas: Banking & Finance, Corporate/M&A, Dispute Resolution, Intellectual Property and International Trade. Kim & Chang is the only law firm in Korea to receive top rankings in all of the surveyed areas.

In the mergermarket M&A League Tables of Legal Advisers for Q1 2011, Kim & Chang ranked no.1 in Korea based on both deal volume and deal count. In the Asia region (excluding Japan/Australasia), Kim & Chang ranked fourth based on deal count and eighth based on deal volume, and in the Asia-Pacific region (excluding Japan), the firm ranked ninth based on deal count and sixteenth based on deal volume.

The Jubail Export Refinery Project, for which Kim & Chang acted as Korean counsel, has been selected as the Deal of the Year 2010 by Trade Finance Magazine, an affiliate of Euromoney. The award was announced and published in Trade Finance Magazine's March Deals of the Year issue.

In the 2011 edition of the Chambers Asia Guide, a leading global legal journal published by Chambers and Partners, Kim & Chang was ranked as the top firm in Korea in the following 15 practice areas: Banking & Finance, Capital Markets, Competition/Antitrust, Corporate/M&A, Dispute Resolution, Employment, Insurance, Intellectual Property, International Trade, Real Estate, Restructuring/Insolvency, Shipping, Shipping: Finance, Tax and Technologies, Media & Telecommunications. For a third year in a row, Kim & Chang has been ranked as one of the top 100 arbitration practices worldwide in Global Arbitration Review's "GAR 100". GAR is the leading news provider in international arbitration and conducts a survey of the world's leading arbitration firms every year. GAR 100 rankings are based on number of completed merits hearings; number of "bet the company" merits hearings; value of current portfolio; number of pending cases as counsel; number of pending cases under investment treaties; and number of pending cases as arbitrator.

Kim & Chang won the "National Law Firm of the Year for Korea" award at the IFLR Asian Awards 2011. With this latest award, Kim & Chang has been named the top law firm in Korea for nine consecutive years by IFLR (International Financial Law Review), which is published by Euromoney, the world's leading media group. The journal awarded national law firms in 14 countries in Asia based on performance in 2010.

Kim & Chang has won a Honorable Mention in "Asian-Counsel Deals of the Year 2010" (for work completed between December 2009 and November 2010), for its involvement in the following:

China Gaoxian Fibre Fabric Holdings Ltd. ("Gaoxian"), a synthetic fibre manufacturer listed on the Singapore Exchange ("SGX"), issued 30 million depository receipts ("DR"), each DR representing 20 shares of common stock of Gaoxian, through a public offering in Korea and listed the DRs on the Korea Exchange ("KRX") on January 25, 2011. The offering price of each DR was 7,000 Won and the total proceeds from the public offering were 210 billion Won.

The world's leading journal in competition law, Global Competition Review 100 (GCR 100) has ranked Kim & Chang's Antitrust & Competition Practice as "Elite", which is the highest possible classification.

We are pleased to announce that 16 Korean attorneys who completed their training at the Judicial Research and Training Institute of the Supreme Court of Korea joined the firm on February 1, 2011.
