Position
Head of the EU and competition London department; although based primarily in London, has spent several extensive periods in Brussels and continues to work there on a regular basis; has close contacts with the European Commission, OFT, DTI and Competition Commission; for over 25 years, Simon has had a broad diet of competition law, state aid and international trade and customs work; regularly advises on mergers under UK and EU law, acting for either one of the merging parties or third parties, such as complaints or investors; has advised on a high proportion of the largest deals to which the recent M&A boom has given rise; competition law work also involves advising clients on a broad range of contentious and non-contentious issues such as compliance cartels, pricing, discounts, parallel trade, refusals to supply, state aid and the application of competition law to a wide range of commercial agreements – both on and offline; trade work covers a wide range from dumping through to customs issues and other forms of trade protectionism. Career
Trained Clifford Chance; qualified 1983; partner 1991; lecturer in EU law at the London School of Economics 1983-86. Has written a number of articles on competition, state aid and international trade, and has spoken on these areas in London, Brussels, Washington, Tokyo, France, Italy and Brazil.
