Medical Negligence

Claire is a Principal Lawyer and handles all claims of clinical negligence. She has a special interest in those relating to birth injury and has over 25 years' experience representing children and adults in very high value cases.

During her career she's developed unique solutions in settlements to ensure that the lifelong needs of her clients are met fully. This is especially significant in cases relating to both cerebral palsy and non-cerebral palsy birth injury.

Claire jointly set up a niche practice in 1993, which become the clinical negligence department at JMW in 1997. She joined Pannone Solicitors in 2013, part of which was acquired by Slater and Gordon in 2014.

Claire is accredited as a member of the Law Society and the AVMA Specialist Clinical Negligence Panels and has been for many years. She is also designated as a Senior Litigator with APIL. Claire also has a diploma in counselling.

Notwithstanding a number of departures, Slater and Gordon maintains notable strength in multi-track personal injury matters, especially overseas claims. Julia Hamilton ‘handles the most serious cases with aplomb; she has a good record of seeing difficult cases through to a successful conclusion’. The ‘empathetic’ Lindsay Holt is ‘business like and a strong negotiator; she has great strategic insight and is always ready to push an apparently closed door in the pursuit of a point’. Claire Horton  is ‘committed and highly competent’ and Sarah Sedge  is ‘practical with a very good eye for tactics and strategy’. Helen Budge  has ‘built up a good level of experience in serious cases and has a good knowledge of the law’. They are all principal lawyers. Ian Cohen is now at  Simpson Millar LLP, Kristofer Inskip  joined Hilary Meredith Solicitors and Jenny Urwin moved to Fieldfisher .
