Criminal and misconduct.
Position
Partner and head of criminal and misconduct department in Manchester and the North of England; specialises in all areas of criminal work, with an emphasis on business crime and fraud. Has developed particular expertise in the representation of individuals in prosecutions by the police and other agencies, including Revenue and Customs and Health and the SFO. Recently represented the lead defendant in the race-fixing corruption case involving jockey Kieran Fallon, and is currently dealing with a large corruption case in the North of England and an SFO prosecution of a company director allegedly concerned in a so-called boiler-room fraud. Representing defendants in prosecutions by HMRC involving MTIC frauds Operation Vaulter and Shootout. Also has substantial experience of regulatory and professional disciplinary work and is part of the RJW national team. This has included representation of defendants in investigations and prosecutions by the Health and Safety Executive and in particular, concerning fatal accidents in the workplace, trading standards and other government agencies; also involved in police disciplinary work on behalf of the Police Federation and has recent experience of representing individuals in investigations by the racing governing body (BHA). Has represented individuals and members of organisations in public inquiries and inquests, including the high-profile Hillsborough Inquests, the North Wales Child Abuse Inquiry, the Shipman Inquiry and most recently, the Redfern Inquiry into the use of organs for research in the nuclear industry.
