Position
Consultant in the business crime team, Anand was appointed by the Home Secretary with David Perry QC, to the independent Extradition Review Panel chaired by Sir Scott Baker which reported in 2011. This appointment recognised his expertise in extradition including, for example, resisting extradition requests from the Russian Federation for over ten former senior executives of Yukos group companies on grounds that the then president Putin had ordered their prosecution. He continues to advise businessmen and prominent political figures at risk of extradition proceedings who may be the subject of Interpol Red Notices. Anand also has longstanding experience in dealing with mutual assistance matters and has advised governments, for example, about mutual legal assistance requests and diplomatic immunity and public interest immunity. Anand has wide ranging experience in dealing with proceedings instituted by the SFO (including the Wickes case) and other prosecutors who deal with fraud cases. Co-author of the leading text 'Jones and Doobay on Extradition and Mutual Assistance' (Sweet & Maxwell); contributor 'Blackstone's Criminal Practice' (extradition) and 'Fraud loose leaf on money laundering' (OUP).
