Position

Partner in the business crime team, in October 2010 Anand was appointed by the Home Secretary with David Perry QC, to the independent Extradition Review Panel chaired by Sir Scott Baker. This recognises his expertise in dealing with extradition matters including, for example, resisting extradition requests from the Russian Federation for over ten former senior executives of Yukos group companies on grounds that the then president Putin had ordered their prosecution. He continues to advise businessmen and prominent political figures at risk of extradition proceedings and has over 15 clients who are the subject of Interpol Red Notices. Anand also has longstanding experience in dealing with mutual assistance matters and continues to advise several governments in connection with mutual legal assistance requests made to the UK, issues about diplomatic immunity and public interest immunity. Anand has wide ranging experience in dealing with proceedings instituted by the SFO (including the Wickes case) and is currently dealing with a large corruption investigation involving allegations of millions of dollars of bribes paid to a minister in the Middle East.

Trained at Lovells (with secondment to Prudential Plc); qualified 1999; joined Peters & Peters 1999; partner 2005; co-author of the leading text ‘Jones and Doobay on Extradition and Mutual Assistance’ (Sweet & Maxwell); contributor ‘Blackstone’s Criminal Practice’ (extradition and EU criminal law) and ‘Fraud loose leaf on money laundering’ (OUP).
