Penningtons Solicitors LLP has been selected as a finalist for this year’s Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) Private Client Awards. The firm has been recognised in the London Legal Team of the Year category.

The STEP awards cover the whole private wealth sector. Entries go through a rigorous three-stage judging process to select the best out of 18 categories, including Private Investment Office of the Year, Charity Team of the Year and UK Boutique Firm of the Year.

Among the criteria for the London Legal Team of the Year award are breadth of service, delivery to clients, the use of technology and a clear capacity to undertake complex and demanding client issues. Penningtons was able to submit a strong entry which highlighted its varied achievements over the past 12 months. One of the major features has been the integration of Dawsons Solicitors’ private client partners into Penningtons’ London team. The turnover of the combined department for the year to 5 April 2012 exceeded by 8% the combined turnovers of the separate practices in the previous year.

Commenting on Penningtons’ success, Lesley Lintott, who heads the private client team, said: “These awards are acknowledged internationally as a showcase for excellence throughout the private client field and we are delighted to have been included in the Society’s shortlist.”

In the next stage of the competition, a panel of industry experts will give their recommendations to the presiding judges. This year’s STEP award winners will be announced at the seventh annual gala ceremony, which takes place at the London Hilt
