Position
Gary Lightwood is a partner at Pattinson & Brewer and the managing partner of the Bristol office. Gary deals with a broad range of personal injury litigation claims, specialising in claims of the utmost severity, claims on behalf of children and claims for asbestos-related conditions. He also acts in various solicitor professional negligence matters. Cases include: Palmer v Harris, a complicated case involving a 12-year-old boy who suffered severe injury to his leg, almost requiring amputation, when he was run over by a car in his school grounds. The child, who is now 17, has been left with a life-long but small risk of having to have the leg amputated and with severe scarring and disability. The matter settled for £40,000 on a provisional damages basis. Tadman v Bolt, a case arising from a road traffic accident in which the claimant was a cyclist who was severely injured by an inattentive driver, leaving the claimant with permanent scarring to his leg, bone injury and the permanent insertion of steel plates within the leg. The case settled for £28,000. Powell v Crane Process Flow Technologies Limited and others, a vibration white finger claim in which the claimant was exposed to vibration through the use of equipment, including pneumatic guns and kango hammers, which resulted in him developing the condition known as hand-arm vibration syndrome. This was a hard-fought case with significant legal difficulties but which ultimately settled for £10,000.
