Hundreds Fall Sick at Moevenpick Resort Hotel in Taba, Egypt

April 2008

A hotel complex in Egypt is causing major concern as reports of hundreds of tourists becoming ill after staying there have been received.Andrew Morton, Head of the Travel Law at Manchester solicitors, Pannone LLP, said “Management at the Moevenpick Resort Hotel in Taba are claiming the outbreak of sickness and diarrhoea is a result of a virus brought in by holidaymakers, but all the evidence points to the illness being caused by food poisoning and poor hygiene standards.”

Commenting further Morton said, “We have reports of children and adults on drips and in hospital and families facing doctors’ bills of hundreds of pounds. One report from a nurse who stayed there and whose family party of nine were all affected said that the tour representative tried to tell them the bug was brought in from the UK, but she knew this wasn’t how a virus normally behaves. We will certainly be investigating on behalf of tourists affected and putting forward their claims for compensation if appropriate.”

Anyone who has visited the Moevenpick Resort Hotel in Taba in recent months and suffered illness during their stay should consult their doctor upon return to the UK and if they do not receive a satisfactory response from the tour operator, should consider legal action.
