Norton Rose Fulbright’s corporate and M&A team advises clients from the financial institutions and insurance sectors, as well as handling matters spanning industries such as real estate, technology, and energy and natural resources. It advised Shandong Gold Mining Co on the $960m acquisition of 50% of the shares in a gold mine in Argentina. In Shanghai, Lynn Yang, office head Sun Hong and of counsel Tony Zhong are highly regarded, as is Beijing office head Wang Yi, corporate and projects lawyer Barbara Li (also in Beijing) and Hong Kong office head Psyche Tai. Shanghai consultant Justin Wilson retired from the partnership.

Under the leadership of Psyche Tai, the team at Norton Rose Fulbright is widely praised for its excellent track record in high-end corporate transactions in Hong Kong and China, and its global platform makes it well placed to handle other international deals. The practice generates work across a range of sectors, with particular strengths in areas such as real estate, financial institutions and insurance, technology, energy and natural resources. In 2016, Tai, of counsel Rachel Chan and senior associate Aldo Chan acted for Huatai Financial Holdings (Hong Kong) as financial adviser to Hongkong Jingang Trade Holding Co. in the latter’s HK$11.4bn proposed acquisition of China Shengmu. Another highly regarded individual Emma de Ronde was the lead adviser to Hong Kong-listed company Armada Holdings on its HK$1.57bn sale of a majority stake by Kerry Media to Great Wall Pan Asia International Investment, and also the associated HK$990m sale of one of Armada’s subsidiaries, Coastline International, to Paulton Global. Terence Lau and senior associate Priscilla Lee are other names to note. Etelka Bogardi recently joined from the Hong Kong Monetary Authority. Jon Perry relocated from Hong Kong to the London office in 2016. Allan Yee and Phillip John retired from the partnership.

Hong Kong: Capital markets

At Norton Rose Fulbright, ‘partners are generally deeply involved and take a hands-on approach’, including practice head Psyche Tai, who is ‘always quick in getting to know clients’ commercial needs’. The team covers the gamut of equity capital markets transactions for issuers and underwriters across a range of sectors, with particular experience of real estate, financial institutions, healthcare, technology, natural resources and infrastructure, among others. In 2016, Terence Lau and senior associate Priscilla Lee advised Asia Allied Infrastructure Holdings on a $48m open offer, and more recently, they acted for Jefferies Hong Kong in the $61m top-up placing of shares of O-Net Technologies. Doris Ng and Vicky Lam made partner in May 2017, and Emma de Ronde and senior associate Aldo Chan are other notable individuals in the team. Jon Perry relocated to the firm’s London office.
