Litigation department (family).
Position
Simon Thomas has headed the family team since 2002. He joined Michelmores in 1992 and became a partner in 1998. Simon’s practice spans all aspects of family law. He is predominantly known for his expertise, strategic as well as technical, in high value financial cases, whether married or unmarried. His skills are in assessing and advising on the difficult areas such as: the impact and dynamics of a family business on relationship breakdown; the sharing of pensions and other valuable assets which cannot be converted into cash; jurisdictional issues (both parties and assets). He is an authority on the effect of a spouse’s conduct (both violent and financial) in ancillary relief proceedings and was the lead solicitor in the case of H v H (financial relief; attempted murder as conduct) 2006 1 FLR. Simon is known locally amongst his peers for his pragmatic and client-focused approach. He knows his subject well and is a skilled negotiator who is dedicated to resolving his clients’ issues in the best and most timely way he can – a colleague reports that his ‘outbox is as busy on a Sunday night as it is on a Monday morning’.
