Marinovic & Alcalde Abogados' litigation practice routinely acts in major civil and commercial conflicts that play out before Chile’s ordinary courts of justice, Courts of Appeal and Supreme Court. The six-strong group also makes frequent appearances before arbitration tribunals; and is additionally expert in administrative sanctioning procedures, competition disputes, and insolvency-related claims, along with mining, water, aquaculture and consumer law-related disputes. The practice is led by Enrique Alcalde who specialises in the litigation of disputes concerning corporate governance, power and gas, M&As, and construction and engineering. Providing further partner-level support, Benjamín García ‘stands out because he focuses on keeping clients informed‘; Nicolás Marinovic's civil litigation practice covers contractual liability, torts, and real estate lease-related proceedings; and Tomás Ruiz-Tagle, whose broad caseload includes defence-side civil and administrative matters, claims against government agencies, constitutional issues, energy and natural resources-related disputes, and corporate and commercial conflicts. At associate level, Sebastián Lara Bohle regularly defends civil and commercial litigation claims; the team was strengthened with the July-2022 hire of Estefanía Klima Golborne from Bock Abogados. Since publication, the firm has also hired labour litigation specialist Cristobal Agustín Muñoz from Saavedra & Compañía Abogados - effective as of January 2024.

Marinovic & Alcalde Abogados’ eight-strong real estate group ‘stands out from the competition’. The practice has longstanding experience in land parcelling, lot divisions, changes in land use and construction, along with urban planning and urban development. Other areas of strength include concessions, expropriations, property easements, environmental issues, permitting procedures, and zoning and land use. The group additionally provides regulatory advice, handles M&A deals involving real estate assets and undertakes real-estate litigation regarding property leases. It also has a notable niche in social housing developments. With ‘a clear, strategic vision’, team head Juan Carlos Méndez  has a strong suit in the acquisition and sale of real estate assets particularly residential, commercial, mixed-use retail and office properties. Raised to the partnership in late 2022, Domingo Edwards is experienced in corporate, real estate and zoning legal issues, along with the financing and development of real estate projects. Laura Salazar and Francisca Gatica are the names to note at associate level.

Marinovic & Alcalde Abogados' six-strong team is experienced in conflicts involving shareholders and company boards, as well as arbitrations concerning public infrastructure, large-scale project concessions, construction, engineering, M&A, and oil and gas, aas swell as trusts, estates, and high-net-worth family assets. The dispute resolution and arbitration team is led by Enrique Alcalde, one of 20 members of the Arbitral Commission for the Chilean Public Concession System (since 2018), whose track record also includes being a CAM Santiago arbitrator in several contract liability proceedings. Younger partners include former Philippi Prietocarrizosa Ferrero DU & Uría associate Benjamin García; complex arbitration specialist Nicolás Marinovic; and Tomás Ruiz-Tagle Barros, whose experience includes working for the Chilean Government for several years. At associate level, Estefanía Klima Golborne is a July 2022 hire from Bock Abogados, while Sebastián Lara Bohle defends civil and commercial matters before the arbitration courts.

Chile > Corporate and M&A Tier 4

Marinovic & Alcalde Abogados' ‘very organised' team regularly works alongside the boutique firm’s real estate, tax, disputes and mining colleagues on corporate matters, and acts for a portfolio of clients comprising private individuals, family offices, and international and domestic companies. The corporate practice is co-led by Martín Vilajuana de la Cuadra, whose experience includes deals involving corporate structuring advice; Javier González Echávarri , whose wide-ranging practice encompasses corporate law, M&A, finance and dispute resolution; and Alberto Polette Zaldívar, who advises on corporate, venture capital and mining law. In a boost to the team, former senior associate Tomás Polette Zaldívar, a specialist in business organisations and corporate finance, was raised to partner in January 2023.
