Position

Carol is a solicitor, working with Stephen Hopwood in the Family Department on all family law matters, and she is one of the first points of contact in terms of client care. Carol has an excellent knowledge of all areas of Family Law, and in particular Children and Domestic Violence Issues.

Carol is also an Accredited Police Station Representative and frequently assists clients who have been arrested on a range of criminal matters, both at the police station, and at the Magistrates’ Court.

Career

Carol joined McCormicks in the summer of 2012, and began her Training Contract in December 2014. She qualified as a solicitor on 1 June 2016. 

Education

Previously a teacher of secondary science, Carol returned to Hull University to complete a law degree in 2008, shortly after her own divorce. Carol graduated from the University of Hull in 2011 with an upper second class honours degree in Law. She was awarded a place on the Law Society Bursary and Diversity Access Scheme in 2011, and went on to receive a commendation from the Legal Practice Course at the College of Law, York, in 2012.

The family law team at McCormicks is headed by senior associate Stephen Hopwood and regularly acts for high-net-worth individuals and their families on a range of matters concerning matrimonial finance and children law. Recent work includes acting for the vulnerable wife of a high-profile entrepreneur in a settlement involving substantial business and other assets, and acting in high-value divorce and ancillary relief proceedings involving farming assets and assets held in trust. In an illustration of the firm’s track record in children law matters, for which Carol Hancock is highly regarded, it recently acted for a father in Children Act proceedings in which the firm succeeded in obtaining a Child Arrangements Order enabling the children to live with their father.
