Position
Guy is a partner specialising in EU and competition law. He has experience of advising in a range of industries, but especially utilities, food, retail and automotive. Guy has particular experience of advising on competition investigations by the European Commission, Office of Fair Trading (OFT) and UK sector regulators. His experience includes attending Dawn Raids and successfully making leniency applications. Guy undertakes competition law audits, compliance and training programmes; and provides competition advice on commercial agreements. Guy handles merger clearances before the European Commission, OFT and Competition Commission, and implements coordinated strategies for obtaining multi-jurisdictional merger clearances. Guy’s recent experience includes: advising National Grid on its appeals to the Competition Appeal Tribunal (CAT) and Court of Appeal against Ofgem’s infringement decision and £41.6m fine for alleged abuse of dominance in relation to National Grid’s gas metering services agreements. The fine has been very significantly reduced on appeal; advising Ofwat on the Shotton case before the CAT and Court of Appeal; representing clients during investigations that led to the OFT’s infringement decisions in aluminium spacer bars, independent schools, construction and tobacco retailing; representing Glanbia plc on the OFT’s ongoing investigations into dairy .
