Position

Carolyn is a partner in the pensions team in the London office. She has specialised exclusively in pensions law since 1987 and is recognised by the UK’s legal directories as a leader in both the non-contentious pensions field and in the area of pensions litigation. Having established and run a successful pensions group at city law firm, Taylor Wessing, for many years, Carolyn has a high profile within the pensions industry. She is a former member of the Main Committee of the Association of Pension Lawyers and a current member of the Association’s Investment Committee. Carolyn has also been a guest commentator on pensions for Radio 4 and Radio 5 Live on a number of occasions. Carolyn has a broad based practice covering all aspects of non-contentious pensions work and pensions litigation. Her contentious work includes many high-profile cases, including the first pension scheme rectification case (Lansing Linde) and the series of cases in the notorious National Bus matter involving, amongst other things, the recovery of £350m of surplus assets from the UK government. On the non-contentious side, Carolyn advises employers, trustees, insurers and scheme members on the full range of pensions issues, including scheme changes and mergers, winding up, funding, investment arrangements, buy ins and buy outs, Pension Protection Fund and Financial Assistance Scheme issues and the Pensions Regulator’s regime. Carolyn is a frequent conference speaker and also lectures regularly on trustee training courses for the National Association of Pension Funds.
