Position
John is a tax partner and specialises in corporate tax. He specialises in corporate and business tax, and regularly advises on the tax aspects of UK and international M&As, JVs and partnering arrangements, private equity transactions, treasury and funding issues (including asset finance and financial instruments), property taxation, transactions under the PFI and VAT. He is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation, a member of the VAT Practitioners’ Group, a member of the corporation tax sub-committee of the Law Society Revenue Law Committee and a member of the International Fiscal Association. Recent projects include: advising AMEC plc, the international engineering and project management company, on the £126.6m sale of AMEC’s UK wind farm business (AMEC Wind); advising Wal-Mart/ASDA on the disposal of Gazeley Limited, the property development division of ASDA to Economic Zones World of Dubai; advising Aviva plc on the acquisition of Hamilton Insurance Company Limited and Hamilton Life Assurance Company Limited from HSBC and related insurance distribution arrangements; advising Heywood Williams Group PLC on a complex £21m debt for equity restructuring through a sale (following a court-appointed administration) to a new company.
