Position
Helen is a legal director specialising in all aspects of environmental law and policy. She has extensive experience across a range of sectors, having retrained as a lawyer after a degree incorporating environmental science and working as an advisor to the National Farmers Union. Helen is an external speaker and regional convenor for UKELA. She acts for private and public corporations and central and local government. Her experience includes: advising on nuclear related environmental liabilities, including site licensing, radioactive discharges and contaminated land; advising on sustainability and carbon, including emissions trading, carbon reduction commitment, ESCOs and MUSCOs, and green leases; advising on waste management and producer responsibility including environmental permitting, producer compliance schemes and transfrontier movement of waste; advising on land contamination and remediation projects, assessing and transferring legal liabilities, advising on tax relief for remediation and environmental insurance; advising on the environmental aspects of construction, corporate, property and banking transactions and PFI projects (including environmental due diligence, environmental risk transfer and legacy management); liaising with the Environment Agency, DEFRA and DECC on emerging environmental legislation and interpreting the application of existing legislation; advising on nature conservation and water management and regulation.
