Position
James is a partner in our professional liability and commercial litigation department and is part of the financial institutions team and the cross-departmental financial and regulatory team. Specialises in all aspects of financial services and has extensive experience in acting for financial institutions on contentious matters in a number of jurisdictions. Much of this has involved arbitration and cross-border work with an eastern bloc and south-east Asian connection, as well as dealing with complex recovery work through the English Courts for a major high street bank. Insurance experience covers all aspects of financial institutions claims, including Bankers Blanket Bond and civil liability claims. Currently involved in a number of ‘catastrophe’ claims, particularly class action claims emanating from the US and financial product misselling claims. Also has considerable experience of advising insurers in relation to policy wordings. Recent cases include: acting for Wembley PLC in their dispute with the Hong Kong government concerning the Hong Kong football stadium; acting for Commerce Bank in relation to a dispute with the liquidator of the collapsed Peregrine Group; acting for French individuals in a dispute with the Republic of Iran – judgment to be reported.
